As soon as I saw the incredible colours, shape & patterns of the Blue Crab I knew it
would make a wonderfully intricate etching. This particular etching was drawn from a
crab that I purchased from a fishmonger in London. It took me about a week to draw
it directly onto the plate, with the crab being to & fro'ed from the deep freeze. I worked
on this etching in the summer, possibly not the best time to sit staring for hours at
a beautiful but very dead crab! I have since seen many Blue Crabs in street markets
and do feel rather sad that they are so easily sold and consumed with no apparent
regard for their stunning beauty
